What a week! I’ve spent the past several days in Germany at the Meyer Werft shipyard, and needless to say, it has been an incredible experience getting a first look at the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet!

The Disney Fantasy floated out of the enclosed building dock on Sunday and was greeted by the applause of thousands of people who came to witness this major milestone. Now, construction crews continue to put the final touches on this majestic ship. I want you to be a part of the experience as the Disney Fantasy comes to life, so come with me on a photo tour…

Let’s start in the Art Nouveau-inspired atrium lobby, which expands three decks and includes a sweeping grand staircase, towering fluted columns, an exquisite marble and stone inlay floor and a cascading chandelier of stained glass and crystal beads.

Next stop: the whimsically designed Animator’s Palate restaurant, home to the brand new “Animation Magic” show that brings guests’ cartoon creativity alive during dinner.

Up on deck, the pools near completion, almost ready for the first guests take a refreshing dip.

And we’ll finish the tour at one of the water features brand new to the Disney Fantasy, Satellite Falls. Imagine yourself on a warm day sitting on the bench of the circular pool as the cascading rain curtain falls gently on you. It’s a great thought isn’t it?

Gusto Wine Bar

Gusto Wine Bar will be unveiled later this year (scheduled in April 2012). This will be a brand new entity created next to the restaurant. The look and feel will be reminiscent of an ancient Italian wine cellar, complete with stone walls and floors and exposed brick arches throughout. The space will feel as though it’s underground, with a dark atmosphere, wooden furniture, and wine barrels supporting the bar counter!

The best part? There will also be a “dining area” with vaulted ceilings, glass wine container, and a large fireplace! (Our guess is that only appetizers and “tapas” will be served here — much like in La Cava del Tequila in Epcot’s Mexico…but that’s just a guess!)

The Mering family flies cross-country to help Josh and Trey transform an empty event space into a Holiday Oasis for guests in time for opening night. The build includes four tiki huts that need to be framed, painted, covered in bamboo and thatching, then decorated. In addition, a large background frame is built for photo opportunities with characters, and the entire space is decorated to Disney standards. Time is against them and failing is not an option because Disney's Magic Kingdom's Holiday Party starts at 7pm sharp in just three days. Along the way, Josh gets behind-the-scenes access and learns how they wrap a 189-foot castle in Christmas light. The family also learns the secret to making it snow on Magic Kingdom's Main Street in Florida weather. And finally, Josh gets up close and personal while workers install a 65-foot Epcot Icon tree.

The Walt Disney Co.'s time-share business said Thursday it will add time shares to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the highest-priced company-owned hotel at Walt Disney World.

The project, in which approximately 147 time-share units will be added in a separate building next to the posh hotel, is the first new Disney Vacation Club resort to begin construction since the global recession sent sales tumbling across the time-share industry.

Disney said the resort addition is expected to open in late 2013. The plans include a children's water-play area and other amenities.

The Grand Floridian expansion should inject some high-demand inventory into Vacation Club, which was one of Disney's fastest-growing businesses before sales ebbed during the recession and the anemic recovery that has followed. The Victorian-themed Grand Floridian is Disney World's most luxurious hotel and is adjacent to the Magic Kingdom, the busiest theme park on the planet with more than 17 million visitors a year.

It will be the second time-share property Disney has built near the Magic Kingdom, joining Bay Lake Tower, an addition to Disney's Contemporary Resort that opened in August 2009.

"We continually look for ways to expand Disney Vacation Club by creating resort experiences that our members will love," Claire Bilby, the senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club, said in a prepared statement. "With the continued popularity of Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, we are thrilled to offer our members and guests a new resort option along the monorail system with easy access to the Magic Kingdom Park, as well as a variety of shopping, dining and recreation experiences."

Though Disney does not report specific financial results for its time-share business, the company said sales of Vacation Club units fell during its most recent quarter, which ended Oct. 1. Disney is currently peddling interests in four resorts: Bay Lake Tower, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas and Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, all of which are in Orlando, and Aulani, a hotel and time share the company opened this summer in Hawaii.

At its peak, Disney Vacation Club generated roughly $190 million a year in operating profit.
