Kodak leaves the Imagination Pavilion

Now, this brings up several points concerning the future of Future World (and Disney World as a whole). Now that Kodak is out as a sponsor of Imagination!, there are several possible outcomes for this beloved building - some good, some TERRIBLE. Let's take a look:

Outcome #1: A new sponsor takes up Kodak's reigns and leaves the building alone, making sure the building stays well-maintained.

Outcome #2: Nothing happens; Disney keeps the building maintained on its own, a la "Horizons" (although that didn't end too well). Outcome #1 can still happen down the road.

Outcome #3: New sponsor joins, and revamps/redesigns the show building. This can be an overhaul of "JII", the Magic Eye Theatre, or both. This outcome has 2 branching outcomes, seeing as how a sponsor redesigning the show buildings can either keep the same general theme (with Figment), or completely change everything.

Outcome #4: Disney pulls a "Wonders of Life"; puts the building into seasonal mode until it's used primarily for Events.

Now, outcome #4 is highly unlikely right now, seeing that "Captain EO" has just returned to the Magic Eye Theatre, but it is still possible. Speaking to #3, though? Several people on Disney message boards have expressed their wishes for any new sponsorship to leave Figment in the pavilion, and not turn it into a coaster or a churro stand. A few people have responded to these claims, and it's easy to agree with them: An attraction like "JII" doesn't pull in any crowds at all. To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen a line there that went past the loading area, at least not for a few years. So why would a company invest so much money into something that so few people will see? It would, sadly, make a lot of sense for the next company to take up sponsorship at "Imagination!" (if anyone) to turn some part of the pavilion into an E-Ticket attraction. That way, pouring all kinds of money into the pavilion would be somewhat justified.

Now, when it comes to Kodak's sponsorship of the resort as a whole (and it's hard to turn anywhere in WDW without seeing a plug for Kodak), it gets tricky. Is this the end of Kodak as a major sponsor at Disney World as a whole? It's hard to say, and I didn't ask (because I'm a genius). However, in my search for someone to give me official word on Kodak's deal with "Imagination!", I did speak to a gentleman at the Kodak Corporate Line (800-698-3324), who told me after putting me on hold that "Kodak was not accepting requests for or beginning any sponsorships for the rest of the year." When I asked him if this was for financial reasons, or if this was a permanent situation, he simply told me he didn't have access to specifics at the time. So take that however you want - either Kodak is slowly putting brakes on sponsorship deals for the time being, or they're completely pulling out altogether. Either way, it's going to be an interesting few months ahead...

*from Screamscape*
2013/2014 - New Disney DVC Resort Hotel - Rumor - (9/1/10) According to our sources, Disney engineers have been spotted going over the site, to determine just what will need to be done to remove the remains of Water Country. Others have been seen near the front of Fort Wilderness talking about plans to build new barn facilities to move the current Tri Circle D Ranch to a new location. As for the resort itself, I’ve been told that this will be a new DVC Resort, with the design being based on the old Buffalo Junction plans from years ago (minus the now defunct Fort Wilderness Railroad and other extra features), filling the gap between the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. You can find a nice article about the once proposed Buffalo Junction (aka: Wilderness Junction) concept at Progress City USA. (or see article below)

Universal to expand Wizarding World.......

I found this on mugglenet.com
Universal to expand Wizarding World within next two to three years?

If you've visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Universal Orlando, you likely passed through The Lost Continent area of the Islands of Adventure. It's the area right before the Wizarding World if you're entering via the Hogwarts Express entrance.

You probably flew right through it because you were too excited to get to The Wizarding World. Upon passing it again as you left The Wizarding World (filled with Butterbeer), you probably looked around The Lost Continent and thought 'meh'.

You're not the only one who gave it a meh. And it looks like Universal agrees too. MuggleNet reader Kelsey tells us she was on a tour of the park the other day when a Universal guide told her that within the next two or three years The Wizarding World would expand and replace The Lost Continent.

In my opinion, The Lost Continent is begging to be replaced. Potter could do so much better in that area. And this is in line with a number of strong rumors we've heard that say Universal has an agreement with Warner Brothers insisting on new additions to The Wizarding World in two to three years.

So, this means we could see an addition to the park opening possibly as early as Summer 2012. If it were to open then, Universal certainly has some plans in the works right now. What would YOU like to see added to The Wizarding World?

From the "Disney Moms" here are the top spots in the "world" to get your fix....
* Starring Rolls Cafe in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a good place for espresso and good old iced coffee too. Another hidden gem is the Writer’s Stop at the end of New York Street which serves espresso drinks and baked goods.
* Espresso Coffee & Pastry kiosks are located in several spots in World Showcase at Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom offering many choices of hot, iced and frozen coffees.
* Kusafiri Coffee Shop in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is where you’ll can find some wonderful espresso. If you are in a tea mood, try the Royal Anandapur Tea Company also in that theme park.
* Kona Cafe in Disney’s Polynesian Resort serves authentic Kona coffee made from beans from one of the most fertile regions of Hawaii. The beans are flown to Central Florida where they are roasted to Disney’s strict specifications.
* Contemporary Grounds over in Disney’s Contemporary Resort on the first floor is also a great spot for specialty coffee drinks.
New Music Added to Space Mountain at Walt Disney World Resort
Listen up Space Mountain fans, there’s a new addition to the Walt Disney World Resort attraction that just may be music to your ears. It’s an enhanced audio experience with sounds you’ve never heard before. Walt Disney Imagineering has added a new composition that’s exclusive to the attraction at Magic Kingdom Park that will play with varying sound effects throughout all “flights” on 60 newly installed speakers. “Starry-O-Phonic Sound” compliments a slew of enhancements that debuted on Space Mountain last year, including new lighting, storyline elements and updated decor. Here’s a special message from The Space Mountain Project Team.
More than 30 million blooms in artfully designed floral beds, floral islands, vibrant rose gardens and larger-than-life topiaries will grace the 300 acres of Future World and World Showcase during the 18th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, scheduled to take place at the Walt Disney World theme park March 2 through May 15, 2011.

In addition to the brilliant horticulture displays, guests also can hear from celebrity guest speakers, participate in hands-on seminars and experience innovative planting demonstrations and exhibits.

A favorite festival tradition is the lineup of concerts in the Flower Power concert series. Artists and groups will take the stage in World Showcase to add some tuneful fun to the floral festivities.

Guests can obtain more information about the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival by calling 407/W-DISNEY or online at http://www.disneyworld.com/flower or http://www.disneyparks.com/blog (online information will be updated as it is received). Walt Disney World passholders can hear about Duffy’s background at a special presentation at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at The Odyssey at Epcot. Each hour-long show will feature a guest speaker from Walt Disney Creative Entertainment.

This event is for passholders only, and seating is limited to those who reserve it online at Disney’s passholder website. Adults can claim children ages 3 to 17 as their guests when making reservations, but the kids still must be passholders and show valid passes and the confirmation slip at the time of check-in. This is a welcome change and should help many families who were frustrated by the tedious reservation process in the past that required each family member to log in and reserve a seat. (Children younger than 3 must sit on an adult’s lap.)

Reservations open Tuesday, Aug. 31, at DisneyWorld.com/passholder to all Disney World passholders. However, Weekday Select and Epcot After 4 p.m. passholders will need valid admission to Epcot.
Duffy also is very popular at the two Disney parks in Japan.

A Dream-Come-True
Disney Dream Sets Sail on Maiden Voyage

The newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, Disney Dream, will set sail on her maiden voyage Jan. 26, 2011, from Port Canaveral, Fla. Taking family cruising to all-new heights, Disney Dream embraces the spirit of innovation, magical family entertainment and immersive experiences that have made Disney Cruise Line the preeminent choice for families since 1998.

Two decks taller than the existing Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, the new 4,000-passenger liner increases the passenger capacity for Disney Cruise Line by nearly 75 percent.

The Disney Dream also expands the one-of-a-kind family experience guests enjoy while on a Disney Cruise Line vacation. Here are some of the highlights:

• The ship will feature a first-of-its-kind water coaster – AquaDuck – that will send guests racing above and around the upper decks of the ship.
• Animator’s Palate restaurant will magically transform into an undersea wonderland with live, impromptu interactions with Crush, the animated sea turtle from Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Nemo.”
• Elaborately themed children’s spaces will immerse children in their favorite Disney stories and feature some of today’s most innovative technology.
• A nighttime entertainment district just for adults will be filled with sophisticated, trendy, fanciful and fun-filled venues.
• Inside staterooms will have a “special” view thanks to a cruise industry first, the “virtual porthole” concept.

The Disney Dream will sail alternating three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. During summer 2011, the ship will sail four- and five-night itineraries with two stops at Castaway Cay.

D23 Announces 2010 ‘Sip & Stroll’ Event, Dave Smith Retirement Dinner at Walt Disney World

On October 15 and 16, D23 members are invited to partake in the 2010 ‘Sip & Stroll’ event at Walt Disney World. In addition, a limited number of tickets will be available for a private retirement celebration dinner in honor of Walt Disney Studios Archivist Dave Smith which will be held at the VIP Lounge at the Seas with Nemo and Friends pavilion at Epcot.

Tickets for the just event are $85 while tickets for both the event and dinner are $185 each. D23 members in good standing may purchase a ticket for themselves and one additional guest.

The event begins on Friday evening as D23 attendees are invited to celebrate Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival with unique experiences created just for them. The group will first gather in the foyer of The American Adventure pavilion for a wine and cheese reception. A selection of artisan cheeses with dried fruits, berries, nuts, and house made breads along with Canadian cheddar cheese fondue and additional flavorful treats will be available. Wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will also be served to set the tone for a fabulous event.

Guests who have purchased the Dave Smith retirement dinner package will then join the festivities inside the VIP Lounge of The Seas with Nemo and Friends Disney Legend Dave Smith, retiring Chief Archivist for The Walt Disney Company, is honored on his final day with the company. The VIP lounge is one of Epcot’s most beautiful private spaces, featuring an enormous glass window that looks into the pavilion’s 5.7 million gallon aquarium. Dinner includes a selection of crisp salads, grilled flatbreads, pecan-roasted turkey, fresh scallops and beef medallions. Sumptuous sides include sweet potato mash, wild mushrooms and truffle mac ‘n’ cheese. You can also wash down some delicious German sausage and baked spaetzle with Radeberger beer from Germany. For dessert, there will be a selection of sweets inspired by Disney movie classics. Dinner includes wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages — all perfect to toast the man who founded the Walt Disney Archives 40 years ago.

Saturday morning the event convenes at the Mexico pavilion in World Showcase to sample some robust Mexican coffee and pastries at the newly opened La Hacienda restaurant, hosted by Ricky Deblar, president of the San Angel Inn, who will be on hand to talk about the latest addition to Epcot eateries.

Following the breakfast treat, the group will journey on to the Odyssey building for exclusive presentations and surprises. Our friends from Guerlain and Givenchy will explore their rich histories with Epcot — and Givenchy will offer a sample of their brand new fragrance. Chef Scott Hunnel and Israel Perez of Disney’s exquisite Victoria and Albert’s restaurant will share exciting details about the new Queen Victoria Room, and they will prepare a new dish that will be featured at Remy — the new restaurant on the Disney Dream!

That afternoon, guests can join D23 head Steven Clark, Dave Smith, Archives Director Becky Cline, Disney twenty-three editor in chief Carmen Capone, D23’s Disney Geek Jeffrey Epstein and others from the D23 Team as they sip and stroll our way around World Showcase. As we talk about some of our favorite Epcot spots, each guest will have a “passport” they can use to obtain exclusive Sip & Stroll surprises at various locations around the lagoon.

Also during the day, the VIP lounge inside The American Adventure pavilion will be open just for D23 Members as a place to enjoy some water or lemonade. If you haven’t seen the elegantly designed lounge, you will definitely want to stop in for a look and a libation.

That evening the group will gather at the America Gardens Theatre for reserved seating to the Eat to the Beat concert featuring ’80s icon Howard Jones (“What is Love,” “No One is the Blame”).

The event draws to a close at the Italy Isola for private, reserved viewing of the nighttime spectacular IllumiNations and a mouthwatering dessert party that will include strawberries with Creole Shrubb burst, milk chocolate hazelnut crunch, flambéed cinnamon doughnuts with tiramisu gelato and much more! The perfect way to end a fantastic food-filled weekend!

Tickets will become available for purchase on August 30 at 1 pm ET. Please note that park admission to Epcot is required for both days and is not included in the D23 package.
